Spike Spiegel vs. Spike Setup

Spike Spiegel vs. Spike Setup

Posted to Flickr on 02 November 2010. Part of the Setup series.

This is the setup photo for Spike Spiegel vs. Spike.

The backdrop is made of two sheets of scrapbooking paper held in place with sticky notes. Both figures also stand on a sheet of scrapbooking paper. The debris (and Spike’s weapon) are actually black coffee stirrers.

In the course of taking this setup shot, I accidentally bumped the backdrop, resulting it it coming out of alignment with the "floor." These sets are clearly not built to code.

The figures are lit with a single push-light on the left side of the camera. Spike Spiegel is backlit with an incandescent flashlight.

Above the scene a large circular diffuser softens the ambient light in the room. A dark strip of fabric is positioned above the backdrop to darken it a bit.

Setup

This photo was taken in my kitchen using some pretty simple Gear. You might be surprised to discover how low-tech my "photography studio" really is.
