Vincent van Gogh paints a modern masterpiece on a new canvas.

Origin

This photo was inspired by another project I was working on involving using a smartphone as a canvas for painting.

Setup

The setup for this photo was extremely simple.

The scene is set atop a large white sheet of paper unspooling from above and behind. My iPhone is the canvas.

Above the scene (and not shown) is a large circular diffuser that softens the ambient light in the room.

Initially I tried not to “crop” the painting in the iPhone, but I thought the dark regions to the left and right were distracting.
