1977 Ring Of Evil
I received this creepy ring in second grade, although I do not recall the specific circumstances. What I do know that as a kid it repeatedly brought me nothing but trouble, bad luck, and embarassing moments. Whenever I wore it I was more likely to lose my toys, put my foot in my mouth, become a complete klutz, etc. The last straw was when I pitched myself off of my bicycle and cracked my arm.
After the embarrassing bike incident I decided to fashion a small ring prison and banish it forever, never to be worn again. Over the years I have occasionally come across it again and debated about tempting fate … but I never do. Yes, I know it’s completely silly. I’m not normally superstitious, but life’s too short!
The floating effect was achieved by suspending the ring with invisible thread, but because of the dark background the thread was still visible SOOC. So I did something I normally try to avoid and used Photoshop to digitally hide the thread. The bokeh was created by shining red filtered light onto a piece of glittery black scrapbooking paper.
Photo submitted to the Flickr group Macro Mondays for the "embarassing" theme.
This is one of many curious items collected in JD’s House of Miscellany.
