1976 The Littlest Patriot

1976 The Littlest Patriot

Posted to Flickr on 27 February 2009. Part of the JD's House of Miscellany series.

For a time my maternal grandmother Dorothy White worked in a flower shop. One day while visiting her there, she gave me this United States bicentennial-themed figurine from a bin that was filled with them. I remember feeling that I was getting something "for free" that everyone else had to purchase. For many years he was proudly displayed in a shadowbox on my wall.

Standing one inch in height, I imagine he’s playing a little patriotic tune on his flute.

This is one of many curious items collected in JD’s House of Miscellany.
