"Just Visiting This Planet"
I bought this funny pin at Golden Triangle Mall in the early part of 1984, just months before what would be a painful departure from my hometown of Denton, TX. On the surface, the purchase reflected my interest in science fiction, but the subtext is obvious: I did not know how to deal with the emotional detactment I felt as I moved away from the life I knew into an "alien world." Indeed, the pin reflected my attitude toward my new home: I would never feel as if I really belonged there.
