1990 Computer Lab Sign
"Use of This Laboratory is Restricted to Computer Science Students Only"
Signs such as this one warned non-geeks away from the Department of Computer Science’s computer labs at the University of North Texas during the late 1980’s.
In 1990 the department reversed its policy, and all UNT students were invited to use the labs. When the signs came down, I grabbed one for reasons unknown. Maybe I wanted to remind myself that society benefits most from technology when it is widely used. Or maybe I’m a compulsive, sentimental packrat.
You be the judge.
This is one of many curious items collected in JD’s House of Miscellany.
