As has been the case for many years, in 2010 my family’s Christmas tree was protected by superheroes. Shown here are Wolverine, the Thing, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Hulk.

Captain America
Captain America is a superhero in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (1941). As a frail young man, Steve Rogers was enhanced by an experimental serum into a super soldier to aid the United States armed forces during World War II. His costume is based on the American flag, and he carries an indestructible shield. He was played by Chris Evans in the films Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and The Avengers (2012).
Hulk
The Hulk is a superhero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and premiered in The Incredible Hulk #1 (1962). When the scientist Dr. Bruce Banner was accidentally exposed to a blast of gamma radiation, he was transformed into a huge green monster dubbed "The Hulk." The Hulk is known for his strength, his rage, and his battle cry "Hulk Smash!" The character has appeared in numerous television series and films both solo and as part of a superhero team, notably the Avengers. He was played by Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno in the television series The Incredible Hulk (1977) and by Eric Bana, Edward Norton, and Mark Ruffalo in Marvel films.
Iron Man
Iron Man is a superhero in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was first seen in Tales of Suspense #39 (1963). The character was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby. The rich industrialist and engineer Tony Stark developed a powered suit of armor to escape a kidnapping plot and went on to use progressively refined armor to protect his corporate empire Stark Industries and fight crime as Iron Man. Iron Man has been portrayed in several films by Robert Downey, Jr., including Iron Man (2008) and The Avengers (2012).
