Clip LEDs
I sometimes use these small battery-powered clip LEDs, usually for backlighting. Each is about 2 1/2 inches long. They produce a blue tint and a somewhat diffused light.
When I want to project a color, I will tape glass beads to the front of the LED, such as the red and green ones shown here. The LEDs themselves are exactly the same; it’s the glass bead that makes the difference.
