Imperial Art Appreciation: White

Imperial Art Appreciation: White

Posted to Flickr on 09 August 2009. Part of the Stormtroopers series.

"Well cadets, we’ve saved the best for last, because your final lesson in Art Appreciation is about the color white!"

"Obviously, white is one color that we stormtroopers know something about. The white armor we wear reminds us to live up to those attributes that are most associated with the color: peace, purity, simplicity, and security. As gentle falling snow forms a blanket to preserve vulnerable life from the harsh elements of winter, the proud Imperial stormtroopers are deployed to protect worlds across the galaxy, to secure them from war and rebellion."

"Our mission, pure and simple, is to secure the peace for the glory of the galactic Empire. "

"And that, cadets, is your final Art Appreciation lesson. I hope you have learned a thing or two during the course of this class. And now, with your education complete, it is time to begin your first mission, capturing the rebel scum who have fallen into the Emperor’s trap on the forest moon of Endor. With these lessons fresh in your mind, I’m sure the mission will be another great success for the Empire."

"Class dismissed!"

Today’s lesson: The noble stormtrooper is the white light of hope for the galaxy.

Selected imagery background information.

The stormtrooper is the elite soldier of the Imperial forces in the Star Wars universe. They typically wear white armor and helmets and are armed with blasters. Imperial stormtroopers were first depicted in the film Star Wars (1977). As shown in the Star Wars prequels Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), the stormtroopers were preceeded by the clone troopers, an army of soldiers cloned from the bounty hunter Jango Fett and loyal to Emperor Palpatine. In many ways stormtroopers are an iconic symbol of the Galactic Empire.
